In the US the urban poor are often people of color, which are made to be a boogie man by the rural conservative right, mainly due to racism. So the urban poor are not as likely to vote for them.

It’s not wrong that poverty is related with crime. But the solution is to fix poverty, not hate on brown people for daring to be poor.
