The US obsession with being 6ft tall would be completely solved by switching to the metric system. 182,88cm doesnt have the same impact.

I don’t understand the 6 feet tall american fetish. Is it a nazi thing, where if you’re shorter, you end up in a camp? Because it sounds like it. That must be the only country I know which is so fixated on height.

Before we can find an answer to this question, we need to understand how US Americans measure size. I did a little research on it and want to share my new knowledge with you.

Please correct me if I am wrong:
People from the US seem to mix 2 different “units” together - foot/feet and inches. They are notated in short with single (‘) or double ticks (’').

If I understand correctly, you need to build the sum of the two units, so if somebody is 5’6’’ this means I am 5 feet plus 6 inches tall. So similar to how we would say I am 1 meter and 70 centimeters tall.

Now this leads to funny things - what is the next size bigger than 5’9’‘? It is 5’10’‘! But 5’10’’ is not 6’. There is also 5’11’‘. This is because one foot is 12 inches! Consequently, 5’12’’ is 6’.

6’, or I think you actually write it 6’0’‘, is about 182 - 183 cm, I am too lazy to find the exact value right now. This means if you are smaller in size than 6’0’‘, for example 5’11’’ (180 cm, ridiculous), you have zero chances to ever find a dating mate (if I understood correctly).

Thank you for staying with me so far! Now here comes an interesting fact - in Germany where I live, we have something similar, it is 180 cm. I heard this the last time on the playground when I was 14, but 180 seems to be a magical number over here, even if I don’t think we take it nearly as serious as our brothers in the USA.

Now, think about it for a second, 6’, 180… they are all more or less clean and pretty numbers. Six - nothing more, nice. 180, just like in Darts!

It gets funnier though, if we look at the average size in these countries. In Germany it is 182 cm, in the US about 176 cm. That means the “acceptable” size in Germany is 2 cm below average and in the US it is 6-7 cm above average. This is crazy!

Now let’s get back to the question. Why is this such a fetish in the USA? Is it the same with your penis size?

Let me tell you my friend, your size (of whatever body part) is totally fine! I mean your ancestors who “cursed” you obviously also weren’t very big and they still managed life and had children. Please stop focusing on dating apps. Go out and get to know real people that share the same interests you do, collecting rocks or history or whatever. If height is so important that probably tells you something - you wouldn’t even want to get to know these women. Who would want to date a person that superficial?

You really stayed until the end. I hope it was worth it!

This was a good post, very informative. So I have a couple questions: how many Germans fit their “ideal” of 180 if it is a bit below average? Normal distribution, so median German will be average German I suppose, but is 2cm one standard deviation? And the same for Americans, is 6 foot eliminating 70% of the male population if it’s this far above average? Should the Germans pick 190 or 200 as their round numbers to have comparable proportions of “inadequate men”? Does picking a below-average number increase the impact on the smaller number of men who don’t pass the bar?

Short answer yes. Long answer, yeeeeeees. Manosphere self cucks who would rather hate women than wash their own asses have made a story that men who aren’t 6ft tall with correctly angled cheekbones can’t get girlfriends because women are picky and mean. They point to the few women who have stated that they like tall men (in the same way men like different tits or ass) as if this is a stone wall consensus and validation for their hate. Now people joke and meme on it.

Only place it really hurts you is on a dating profile.

And in that case, you’re supposed to just lie about it, duh. If you’re at least 5’6", just round that up to 6’. 9/10 times, she won’t notice the difference, and it won’t come up until well after you’re in an established relationship, and by then she won’t want to leave you just because of your height, if she even remembers you claiming to be 6’ in the first place.

Mostly, the only girls who will notice are girls who are tall themselves – they’ll notice that they’re taller than you are. So, sorry, even though tall girls are great, you short kings out there will be missing out on them. But, still, lying will work great most of the time.

It’s a manosphere thing. Those guys play on the insecurity of the morons and height is one of the major paths they can take. It’s something that the person can’t change, therefore has the highest chance of keeping them watching until they’re radicalized.

I don’t think so. Dating apps are loaded with women asking for tall. Workplaces are filled with senior positions favouring not just talent, skill and merit, but height.

Researchers have validated the predisposition to favouring height many times. A quick search can find them. This is way older than manosphere.

As a tall white man of moderate merit, I’ve been more successful in career and love than merit justifies. Just like white privilege is a thing, so is tall.

the community college student , some are more than 6+years there, 10-20years for the outliers. those are usually not interested in "transferring to any 4-year, or dont really have any direction in thier academic track. the cheapness makes them complacent and not trying(AN academic trap basically)

A surprising number of my CC instructors had an inferiority complex and made their classes significantly harder than most university classes. That 4th year class load plus a full time job would be miserable.

This right here is how toxic masculinity is done. One of its main rules is: “Men don’t complain.” Height privilege is real, as described by another Lemming in this thread. But a shorter man lamenting that he’s on the wrong end of it is breaking the rule, so instead of sympathy, he gets told that he’s defective for having a natural, human reaction.

(Yes, I know I’m breaking the rule, too.)
