after further research, fuck apple. even windows somehow has better interoperability with other systems, with making recovery media, virtualization, and just basic, basic shit.

trying with high sierra now.

edit: sosumi works!

There’s plenty of guides out there for qemu. For later versions of macos you need to add some virtual hardware that says “Hi I’m a mac” to macos. Just Apple things.

I subbed to /r/hackintosh ages ago for some reason, and while I don’t go to Reddit very often these days, when I do I’d see a post in the feed saying “Success: Running macOS 26 on …blahblahblah”

And all I cold think was: How is that a success?

I have a MacBook that could have legitimately run Tahoe, but I kept it weeelll away. Sequoia 4 lyf.

The only success I’ve ever had with virtualizing MacOS on a non Mac host is using VMWare Workstation with some unofficial patch to make it think it was running on a Mac host and enable the option to run a macOS guest. And that took a bit of faff to get working too, no idea if it still works as a method
