“If you press it more than 129 times, does it turn into a money printing machine?” — sociopaths, probably

And the thing is the majority of the people here who have diesels (pickup trucks) would press that button anyway.

this would be offered by the dipshit admin, it won’t be a ‘discount’, it’ll be a surcharge that goes right into the diaper.

The amount supplied by Russia is equal to America’s consumption over 14 hours. So it’ll be way less than a cent difference. A non-sociopath would never push that button, so we have a sociopath in the oval office to push it for us.

I think you got the process backwards, Trump doesn’t care about the diesel price. Trump started out wanting to help Russia. The whole diesel thing is just an invented setup, to give Trump a propaganda reason to bash Ukraine.

To see this realize that 1) Trump has always been openly pro-Russia, anti-Ukraine 2) the diesel price effect this will have is tiny 3) the political cost to Trump is completely disproportional to diesel price relief.

Fuel has very inelastic demand, and thus relatively small changes in supply can create big changes in price. The reason this won’t do shit is actually because it’s not changing the total global supply. And we aren’t getting a special price anyway as far as I know.

It’s not going to make any difference, even if Russia was sending enough diesel to get America through the next two years. That’s just not how commodity pricing works.

If Russia weren’t sending this diesel to the US it would be sending it to China or India. Because it’s going to the US they will have to buy the equivalent amount from the global market so demand and by extension price remains the same. This isn’t “new” diesel being added to the market, it’s just being redirected.

The only effect this has is that Russia can sell at global market price rather than having to take a discount to make it worth the buyer breaking US sanctions. It literally only helps Russia, America gets 0 benefit from this.

Unfortunately trucking is a cost for literally every good in this country. We all pay for this.

Don’t even get me started on how farming needs diesel. Just everything we eat getting more expensive

      Hate it here

I agree and fertilizer also needs the oil coming from there.

Those of us with diesel cars and trucks are in for an expensive winter

I know so many men that drive those big trucks at leisure as theyre provided by their employers, and their employers give them credit cards for fuel.

          Wonder how that’s gonna work.

They’ll probably put a cap on fuel they’ll cover but in the end we’re just going to have bigger bills. I think the bigger part is those folks that have 84 month loans on their $130k diesels, can they afford the $2.00 per gallon spike?

Honestly heres hoping we see a spike in cheap low fuel easy maintenance electric or hybrid cars pop up akin to what happened with the 70s oil crises. Personally I’m gonna learn how to use an manual and finally learn how to ride the Enfield I got cheap a couple years ago, gotta stop putting that off.

Also fun fact we are closer to the 2070s than the 1970s.

Where was this cartoon when it was an Iranian family or Palestinian family or Iraqi family or etc.? American foreign policy has basically been just to keep hammering away at this button for a couple of generations now.

You must be joking. “US invading any country that has oil” has been used in cartoons and memes since forever. The US has been criticised internationally for wars and support of dictatorships for decades. There is an endless supply of cartoons for just about any war the US took part in - a lot of them are about oil.

Too brown and too Muslim would be the cynical answer.

There is no doubt the US likes to control resources, especially oil, in other countries. It is not because they need them, it because it is profitable. The button is pressed by the MIC as a matter of national security obsecene profits.
