The most plausible conclusion would seem to be that God is not merciful, but is instead a sadist. But most people don’t want to continuously live in fear, and there’s clearly nothing you can do to mitigate the suffering by appeasing a sadistic God who gives children cancer for the lols.

Personally I think the most plausible conclusion is that there is no God.
