Wasn’t it written by Jews? If I made up a book, I would say I’m the chosen one and deserve all the ice cream in the world.

It’s pretty much what Christians did. Jesus’ (Yeshua ben Yoseph) matrilineal bloodlines don’t trace to Moses or David, and that’s what makes you Jewish, by birth. Moreover, IIRC, neither does Joseph’s. And if we’re tracing by Hashim, then logically, everyone does. So while Yeshua (Joshua) may be the Christians’ Messiah, He isn’t in any way, form, or fashion the one foretold by Jewish prophets.

Joseph was a descendant of David, at least, if you believe one of the two different lineages given for him in the new testament. The funny thing here, though is, it’s through Jeconiah (sp?) who was cursed by god so that none of his descendants would ever sit on the throne of god. Which, if we’re claiming that Joseph’s adoption of Jesus somehow made him eligible to be the messiah, the problem is that “messiah” was always first and foremost a king of the line of david…

        oopps.

Mary was a levite, IIRC. (At least what’s-her-name-john-the-baptist’s-mum certainly was. Mary was her cousin, so it’s relatively probable that Mary was, too.)(we are never given a genealogy of mary, so maybe not, though.)
