    Vegans are not correct.

    Vegetarians? Arguably yes. Not vegans.

If the cow I’m drinking milk from is living a decent happy life its not immoral for me to drink it.

I’m not even a vegetarian though, so I will say that the spirit of this tweet at least makes sense to me. I get it.

Um, maybe you should look up, why cows give milk in the first place? It’s not like it’s an animal that just randomly produces milk…little hint: why do human mothers produce milk when they gave birth, but don’t do it randomly their whole life 🤔

As a Vegetarian I disagree. We’re the most schizophrenic when it comes to animal welfare. No meat as we don’t want to kill for our food, but milk and cheese is only possible when we kill calves and eggs are only possible when we shredder 50% of the baby chicks.

Yes, alternatives are starting to pop up, but they are still in the minority here.

If it’s not about animal welfare, but sustainability Vegans also win, because dairy is pretty bad in this aspect too.

You can’t have mass milk products without killing many calf. I use lots of cow cheese but you need to know all process to have milk and cheese needs to kill calfs, as cow stop usual doing milk after something like a year, after a few month of reduced milk production.

As someone who gets hard af headaches and migraine from processed and older foods, I’d say they are wrong. at least for me. No way I eat vegan when there are only 3 types of legumes that don’t give me a headache

I’m in the same boat, but with rampant inflammation from endometriosis in my bladder and bowels. I have so many food intolerances that meat is one of the safest things I can eat.

I hate the taste of meat. I hate the texture of meat. This isn’t for pleasure. I can’t eat potatoes or soy, but I love potatoes and soy. I just can’t eat it without pissing blood.

Vegans still still come and try to argue with me about this. They are massively ablest.

Yea didn’t say that I eat processed meats or any form of cheese either, but I can eat fresh meat and fish, eggs and milk. I can also eat young legumes without getting headaches but I am in testing on that front. Its not about processed but rather age of the product, anything that gets industrially processed (especially protein rich foods) is probably too old.

Yeah, i found that out recently, it’s related to the level of histamine in the food.

Oh! Nice to learn about that! I’ll keep an eye out, although using antihistamines is usually good to clear the headache, thiamine seems to act as an histamine release trigger, so it could be that as well…

The wikipedia page says that there is more and more attention given to the level of biogenic amines in food, so it’s a good news!

With just a little bit of common sense this wouldn’t be so hard to differentiate. Oats are processed, yes (take the grain, separate the husk, press it, pasteurize it, package it, etc.), but nobody will tell you its processed food, right? Also isn’t transport a unit operation, wouldn’t make that anything that got moved in an industrial fashion processed? Get a life if that trips you up

Just eat less meat. You don’t have to go 0-100. Skip the patty, skip the filet. Double up on proteins. Dairy shouldn’t be an end goal but substitute the actual meat for dairy for at least some reduction. Pick the food that is vegan instead of the one using meat stock, etc. Little things here and there. Default to meatless, eat the damn meat if you absolutely have to. Increase this change over time, and make sure to add a vegan B12 supplement. 80% is better than 100%. 60% is better than 80% when you get there. Maybe someday you hit 0%. Achieve perfect through gradual change, don’t shun good if you can’t be perfect.

This is the best advice you can give someone imo. Im like 75% vegan, still have eggs and bacon on the weekends, some chicken with dinner, some other stuff here and there. But mostly its beans/tofu and rice with veggies.

Some people think they have to give up everything all at once right now and of course that seems overwhelming… because it is.

Perfectionism is often used as a shield to prevent change or to avoid challenging yourself or your own rigid thinking. When you see someone saying it’s all or nothing they’re actively sabotaging themselves, often that’s exactly what they want to be doing, plausible deniability

This is a super hot take so bare with me, but the conditions of a lot of vegan food production are also often harmful to the humans that grow the food (I’m talking blood produce) and the growth in popularity of certain superfoods have severely damaged the ecosystems that indigenous populations in the areas where they’re from depended on.

This is not to say being vegan is bad. It’s obviously proven to be better for the environment, and the way that animals are treated is absolutely inhumane.

This is to say however that we should be demanding sustainability in all our food consumption and respect for all living beings. But mostly, it’s to say fuck capitalism.

By vegan food production you must mean processed fake meat? Not all vegans eat a horrible diet.

If you mean vegan food production as in normal non-meat foods such as vegetables than that’s a while opinion. Unless you are Jain or just want to die, we got to eat something.

Most food production in general kills a lot more than I would like especially vegetable and fruit production. Not much to do on the regard though.

That’s the thing though, why should plants be more eligible for eating than animals? Both are living. Animals are closer to us, so we can understand them better, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t being just as harmful to plants.

I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with eating another animal for sustenance. Just the same as there isn’t anything wrong with eating a plant for sustenance. What matters is what we do before we eat them.

Are you stupid? Genuine question, because animals need to eat as well for you to pay someone to murder them. Even going from the assumption that plants suffer too, a plant based diet still causes much fewer plants to die compared to feeding the plants inefficiently to animals to then eat the animals.

eating meat today doesn’t cause it to have been fed in the past. events in the future cannot cause events in the past. eating meat doesn’t cause past suffering.

So you have no problems with slave labour because the suffering already happened when you buy its products? What about a video of a rape? The rape already happened so it won’t cause further suffering getting off to it.

How hard is it to understand that these animals get tortured and murdered for your consumption and you don’t just happen to come upon a corpse accidentally. Your consumption drives the production.
