I hope Nintendo never has a moment of peace with all of this. The thing these gaming companies continue to fail to realize is that they are ultimately responsible for this shit show of a situation with their games.

No one would pirate a game if they could easily and reasonably buy and own the game themselves legally. At least not to the extent where it is starting to run completely rampant now. It’s the greedy practices and authoritarian crackdown by these companies that is making the emulator and ROM scenes explode.

Nintendo will say that this has always been a problem going on, but it did not use to be to this extent. There was a time not long ago where people happily paid for disks and digital copies because the promise was the games where there’s. Nintendo and these other trash companies like Playstation where making money hand over fist, but they decided it wasn’t good enough and changed the rules needlessly. They created the hell fire they live in now.

Didn’t realize that there were already switch 2 emulators available. Sounds like they just dropped and were simpler to develop because the architecture is so similar to the original switch. Nice

This seems to be the only thing AI is good for. I’m playing Bloodborne for my first time on PC because of that AI reverse engineering.

Its not really AI so much as developers can copy/paste and vibe code but serious projects still require proper effort. LLMs help developers who use them discerningly but every successful project has more developer than LLM still.

Bloodborne hasn’t had a successful emulation or port since release, then it seems like someone just used Claude to make it happen quickly. I dunno much about it but just what I’m noticing.

You’re not wrong: Decompiling (turning a compressed program like an .exe back into readable code) is a task that AI excel at. That’s exactly what’s boosting development speed of all these crazy new mods and ports.

But lawyer happy Nintendo don’t go after the AI provider (I assume, too much money in opposition for their own lawyers), just some shmuck who asked the AI if it could do this please.

Cowards vs Scammers would be a fun battle.

Just downloaded the ROM to archive it. Will also download several emulators and source codes, to save them when I want to try it out. I recommend anyone interested into this in a possible future, doing it too.

My 12th gen Corei5 isn’t really up to the task but I can get in-game on these early experimental builds. Radeon cards crash in Hyrule Field currently so I can’t go too far on a Radeon 9070XT just yet. Not that I’d want to, the lighting is fried and it’s running half speed. Cutscene videos like the title screen and intro cutscene have audio desync, in-game audio is fine/syncs. That said, pretty minor issues for Day 1.

Honestly I’d bet a vibe slopped recompilation project gets the game playable before these slopulators do. There are already the beginnings of such if you look.

I used Lichii but there’s also Eglantine Selevet. Both are Eden emulator forks. I noticed neither needed me to install firmware or keys so DMCA in 3…2…1.

It’s crazy to think of all the possibilities. I won’t have any less desire to do my job than I currently do, maybe even more because the other external parties we interact will also have their profit motives reduced or eliminated.

I’m fortunate I work in a career that’s partially aligned with my passions and interests. It’s also a privately owned company where the owner I work closest with makes decisions by asking the staff “will this make things better for our customers?” Followed by “will we make a little bit of profit?” which I interpret as can we keep the business running and make sure we can take care of our employees and colleagues? If we answer yes to those we’re running the projects we pitch him. He cares about the right things, not making more money for himself.

      Also, wrong forum.

It’s fine here. It’s going to be directly tied to emulation which is PC gaming.

When I think of forums, I think of a public place to share thoughts, virtual or physical, that’s the definition of the word. It fits.

Technically illegal if it’s encrypted to circumvent the encryption.

Which is why the AI companies are banning this kind of thing.

My comment was neither pro nor anti AI.

Generally I’m pro, but with so many caveats and complaints I could talk at you for hours straight.
