Don, or whatever one prefers to call that account and all the stories it has put out regarding its ownership, does indeed forget that past a variable but small limit, even good posts become spam. You can’t just flood any forum and maintain good will.
That being said, I ain’t mad. I ain’t happy, but as long as it isn’t an all the time thing, any given community can handle a spate like that. Plus, the account does engage in good faith in comments at least part of the time, so I can’t object on the basis of it being essentially a bot. There is some degree of of human curation going on (whether one likes the results or not), and that human or humans does interact in a meaningful way. I can’t find any rancor towards that. Not saying anyone else has to feel the same, just putting it out there that the overall effect isn’t negative.
They “moderate” AskScience and AskHistorians while having absolutely no interest, knowledge, talent or skill whatsoever on those fronts — which I see as pretty corrosive and counterproductive in terms of community building.
Fully agreed with you that I don’t think they’re malicious in intent, but Dinkleberry’s functional impact on this website is overwhelmingly negative in my book.
Yeah, definitely not bringing anything to those communities.
Mind you, nobody can bring anything to them without building the kind of network of actual professionals together, and having access to thorough and capable mod tools. The lack of the tools means the scientists and historians are absolute not going to put in the effort that made the reddit versions of those community names so useful.
Kinda think they’re just a kid with intermediate english and too much time on their hands. Its annoying but they dont make a million alt accounts so theyre easy to block.
Also for comms like those the fediverse doesn’t really have the appropriate people on the platform for every niche topic.
You forgot the meta tag.

For some reason I never realized Don and that person were the same

Y’know, I hadn’t actually considered that possibility, but you might well be on the money there. Thanks for the charitable lens.
