I think r1b.it is beginning to carve it’s niche in all things nature and non-fluffy animals. That kinda works out given the name and theme, lol.

Anyway, this niche is certainly… niche, but it isn’t completely untapped on the Fediverse. As such, I’m looking for communities that overlap with !herps@r1b.it, !marine@r1b.it, or even the r1b.it instance as a whole so I can link them in their respective sidebars.

I don’t believe in consolidating users into individual communities. I think supporting similar communities helps decentralize the Fediverse, which is kinda the whole point, right? I don’t want to dominate any particular field; I want to share it. So please, help me find things to link :)

Will keep that in mind! I’m actually across 3 instances because I like different ones for different things. This is my follow fun things, no drama, and check out how piefed works one.

Let me know how that goes! I’ve actually been looking into PieFed a lot recently. I just have no desire to microblog myself, so I don’t want to host it. Though, like I’ve said many a time I don’t run my instance for me, so maybe that shouldn’t matter. I also want to look into the performance side of things (storage, CPU usage, etc).

If I decide I like PieFed, I might even switch r1b.it over to it while it’s still small. I’ve been writing a little script to convert the databases, so I should be able to do so without losing data. Also, since they’re both built on ActivityPub, federation shouldn’t be affected. I’m yet to look into that, though, so we’ll see.

I don’t do micro blogging either so I don’t follow any of that. I’m definitely new to piefed so I haven’t touched a lot of the settings yet. I will say the creation of my account got caught in a very small window of a code bug and I couldn’t comment at first. I reached out to my instance owner who reached out to Rimu, the guy who basically does the coding for piefed and he fixed the code across all piefed within a few minutes and my instance update a few minutes later.

From complaint to solution was about an hour and a half and I was completely impressed!
