As a low-income person who relies on government assistance for healthcare, with a lethal (but fortunately very slow-moving) cancer caused by environmental toxins, who generally works jobs that involve dangerous or unhealthy conditions and few to no benefits, and who participates in movements constantly subjected to surveillance and repression, and with beloved friends who experience more brutal forms of repression that I don’t, I’m happy for all of these things. They make a difference. But is that difference enough?
