1·1 day agoPretty much. The engineering teams ive worked in had maybe one actually good guy, and the rest were awful engineers. I’m not saying I’m super good but I grew up with Linux and networks at home, and was programming from a young age. So im pretty decent. But most engineers had no experience with computers and was in it for the money, obviously.

2·2 days agoSure, but there are a lot of bad places. I bet the majority of engineers work in bad places like this.

3·2 days agoAlready running a dns ad blocker, but this wasn’t really a comment about how I personally avoid ads.
There is never enough ads.

5·2 days agoThe last 25 years was better and better browsers and web technologies, but the result now is a web that loads slowly and has tons of ads. Somewhere around 2008 was maybe the best, I dont remember exactly what year. But when the web was actually good and social media was not big yet.

8·2 days agoIt’s so cool how we all share this experience. It’s a bit like also knowing what life was like before mobile phones. No other generation will ever know.

1·2 days agoYeah I think a lot of us share this experience. All the stuff we are tought in our educations about clean code and architecture… Once we come out and work, management don’t want that stuff if it takes extra time. They want features shipped as soon as possible, and every meeting is about “how fast can you do this feature”.
And now of course embracing AI since it’s so fast. When things break, engineers will have to figure out the problem when the entire system is down, not management. :)
And then they can have a post mortem where they say that engineering must have better routines…lol.
I no longer work in tech but I quit at the top I think, before Ai was a requirement. And when consulting salaries was still good. Now they are awful.
Americans like the worst food. They also have completely white bread sandwiches with peanut butter and jelly. Literally just sugar and fat.
I haven’t seen Americans eat a normal dish with some chicken, vegetables, potatoes, light sauce. You know, normal food. Not deep fried.

62·3 days agoI liked writing efficient code but every place I worked didn’t care at all about it. All they wanted was a finished feature and a kanban note moved to finished.
What’s the deal with saying it’s hateful to not like something? Do we have to like everything or shut up?
I think it’s time we stop being simple minded like this.
It was fun to watch all the media write about it as “flying car”. We are living in idiocracy. Next, I guess a bouncing ball is also flying.
This is from 2018.
Nobody else getting tired of bots posting shit without even a source?
The man was cleared too.

We are living in the age where dystopia is being built up and all we can do is write witty comments online about it.
Its an interesting life experience and our generation will be the last young ones who didn’t grow up in dystopia. 20 years from now, the west will be exactly how we think it will be.
