No need to bleed the traditional way after and not messy at all.

I bleed the brakes on my bikes backwards, meaning that I use a big syringe to push brake fluid in from the caliper up to the master cylinder. This must be done from the caliper that sits furthest away from the master cylinder in the front, usually the left side. Works better than the traditional approach in most cases. Might be worth a shot!
