There are breeds, like shar pei, that have been bred to have so much skin folds, the eyelids can for example curl inwards, and you have to perform surgery, to cut part of them away, so they can see and the eyes will not hurt all the time. So, first people breed terrible traits into dogs for looks, and then those traits have to be surgically fixed, for the animal to have any quality of life.
