I’ve lived in middle class homes my entire life and never seen one. Sorry, very serious. It’s def. a more rich thing to have.

My grandmas old falling apart trailer had a gas stove.

They only moved out and into an apartment with an electric stove when their water heater fell through the rusted out floor onto the ground beneath the trailer.

Anyone who owns a home for more than a decade or two, which was pretty normal for the middle class (in the US) for a while, has to replace a stove at some point, and these aren’t that much more assuming you already have a gas line.

Speaking of which, in many places, especially those powered by natural gas, these stoves are actually cheaper to run than electric ones, making them much more common.

But yeah if you see someone putting in their own gas line these days just because they want a gas range, they probably have some fuckin’ dough.

You may have missed the last where they said the stove had five burners. Did your grandma’s have that?

Here’s one for less than a grand from a major manufacturer. Fucker even has a convection fan.

Not sure what gas stoves normally cost because I’m a filthy renting plebian, but I spent more getting my 13-year-old base model civic rolling again after it sat for a few years.

Shit I’ve seen people living paycheck to paycheck spend more on a god-damned laptop than you would that stove.

Like yeah its a lotta money, but if your buying the thing that’s going to cook most of your meals for the next 15-20 years, especially one that needs extra safety systems for how dangerous its fuel is, yeah a grand seems fair.

I’m telling you that you either used as-built junk your whole life or never had a basic remodel. The price difference is $100-$300 for entry-level ranges.
