Thank you. My kids are enormous beasts that look much older than they are.
One year, I think I was around 12, I told my family that I thought maybe I was too old to trick-or-treat so I would figure something else out. They were effusive about how wrong I was and unanimously told me absolutely not, I was still a kid and 100% I had to go trick-or-treating.
The next year I assumed I was still young enough, since they were so insistent the last time, so I told them I planned on going again. They all gave me worried looks and said I was clearly too old.
I don’t remember what age it was, but there is an exact age that people find acceptable, apparently. I’m tempted to go out now, many years later, just out of spite.
Do it. You can grab a handful from my bowl.
Thats always been my question for the childless adults. We should be able to dress and walk around maybe an hour after dark to different houses and if there’s q party stay for a drink
Some neighborhoods do that!
If you can drive you’re on the too old side. Even then if you show up towards the end you might end up with whatever is left in the candy bowl.
plot twist: that “kid” was Old Man Jenkins all along!
Would that be college age? I see groups of teens every year. 2 years ago one kid asked if he could have one of the burgers I was cooking.
One of my neighbors was giving out nips and scratch tickets for the grownups last Halloween.
He just got his 2-month chip…don’t think he’ll be doing that again this year.
I have teens that don’t even dress up. I give em candy but I’m gonna complain that they’re not even trying.
Sure I’m giving out candy to be part of the community but my reward is seeing people in costumes. Don’t break the contract or I’m gonna pick “trick.”
I never understood people who got bent out of shape about giving a 14 year old 9 cents worth of candy one day a year.
i don’t care if a middle aged man shows up, life is better if we invest in joy
It’s an old school Boomer mindset. My parents used to get drunk and mess with the older looking kids. Kinda messed up now that I look back at it
You show up in a costume at a reasonable hour fair go. When three highschoolers show up at 2145 out of costume asking if I have some candy you can fuck off
If my porch light is off, nobody is getting candy from me, and I’m not coming to the door.
If my porch light is on, everybody gets candy.
For a couple years this really fat kid would show up and steal all the candy from the bowl. He was wearing a towel as a cape one year lol
I don’t care if you’re four, fourteen, or forty; you can have all the damn candy you want.
Right? like I didn’t buy an fuck ton of candy to gate keep this candy. Please take it, I don’t care how old you are.
If you turn up at my house wearing anything approaching a costume and you say “trick or treat” you get trick or treat.
You don’t have to have a costume on. I’ll give anyone candy on Halloween.
what if I show up naked?
Please do!
I do think you should at least try. Draw some stitches on your face and say you’re a zombie skateboarder I don’t care.
I’ve lived in areas with extremely disadvantaged people. It’s harder than you think to “at least try.” Especially for teens
Candy for everyone!
I prefer when people are in a costume, but it’s Halloween. If you put in the effort to come to my house, you get candy.
Pizza guy didn’t want candy last year :(
Address?
You’ll know it when you see it.
As a kid who grew up tall (and therefore given weird like very early). 100%. These days, I don’t even care if it’s an adult trick or treating, and they’re not wearing a costume. Let people have fun. Let people be kids.
Yeah, my last year I was 12 and around 5’9. I got some looks
My last year was in high school. We filled our buckets with candy that we purchased ourselves, and then ran around the neighborhood “restocking” all the houses after yelling “Trick-or-Treat!” We’d accept and immediately eat one piece of candy each from anyone who offered, and one of us would ask, “what do we say?” and we’d all shout “thaaank yoooooouuuuu!” with candy in our mouths.
This was also my experience, except one person actually told me I was too old to be trick-or-treating. It didn’t help that my grim reaper costume was actually scaring the smaller children.
My first year to skip trick-or-treating, I hid in my mom’s bushes. When people would walk up to take candy, I’d casually walk out with my hands in a nonchalant “surprise” pose, and I’d say “boo” in the most calm, monotone voice I could muster. People would jump or scream a little, see me approaching them fully deadpan, and scream before running away.
I was asked to stop by some of the neighborhood parents who said it was significantly more terrifying and traumatizing than if I had performed a proper jump-scare.
It’s me, I’m that kid.
I may also be older than the people handing out candy.
Plus there are lots of special needs teenagers out there who really don’t want to explain their diagnosis while dressed up as Dracula in front of their friends …
Unless they are ‘tricking’ your house. Then they don’t deserve candy.
What about three ~14-16yr boys with no receivable costume aside from masks all carrying bus who show up at 9pm?
they get candy? haven’t you heard? it’s Halloween
If my porch light is on, they get candy.
What about three ~14-16yr boys with no receivable costume aside from masks all carrying bus who show up at 9pm?
So it’s not good enough that they got a mask??
You’re now discerning whether the rest of the costume is good enough?
That is so weird.
As long as they aren’t being rude or destroying property, send them on their way with 40cents worth of candy. No harm done.
depends what property? if it’s flock then they get a full sized mars bar each
Fuckin medals.
May Halloween be unkind to flock.
