  • The Malfoid/Anakin stuff is incredibly weak. It isn’t even basing their entire political identity on a joke subversion fan theory - it’s just the right shitposting trolling itself and liking it.

    In the end, Anakin is a comically evil character who happens to suffer from being evil, but he’s still evil. He kills those younglings. Malfoid is especially funny for right-wingers to embrace because it’s effectively a trans fantasy situation that puts them as a sub in a D/s relationship.

    Overall, the memes seem to be right-wing edgelords asking, “Well, yes, we’re the baddies, but what if we enjoyed it!?” And the answer is…you still suck?

    I’m not surprised that Musk doesn’t get or need any level of irony deeper than “look at my cool AI generated picture of Anakin,” but I’m glad it turns out that it doesn’t seem to have legs with any redeemable online communities.

  • Look, I’m tired of Jefferies smug “I tweeted about it, what more do you want” face, but I do want to call out a bit of a hypocrisy I’m seeing here on Lemmy.

    Theres a bunch of folks clamoring about how they want Democrats to focus on trying to fix things and not just waste time on impeachment, but then Jefferies says that’s what he’s gonna do and everyone is back to WHAT ABOUT IMPEACHMENT.

    I mean, there’s no hypocrisy here. Lemmy isn’t a monolith hive mind, even if it leans much lefter than most spaces. Different people are saying different things.

    I agree with you, democrats need to do it all. They need to focus on cost of living and impeach and all the rest. They can do that - they control the committees now, they have plenty of people, they just need someone who is organized to make things happen, not to just blow political wind. Jeffries is the latter, and we need the former.

  • It’s an interesting idea but unfortunately is just a path to having the same fascists rebrand over the next two years and pick back where they left off, gaining momentum to win in 2028.

    Jeffries and Schumer-style politics is to turn invisible and wait, make speeches that are academic and milquetoast and that people forget before each sentence is even over. All that’ll do is let everyone forget that every single GOP lawmaker was actively destroying the country, and leave it to Fox News to rewrite blame to the “do nothing” Democratic Congress.

    The Democrats need to constantly fight the next two years even when they won’t win. They need to not pull any punches and send bill after bill to be vetoed, impeach even where it’ll fail, defund and block every unconstitutional Executive Order and take it to the Supreme Court if needed, and remind everyone who the problem is, force the GOP to take positions. People can’t be let to forget.

  • Now would be a great time to call your representative and tell them Hakeem Jeffries is not what we need:

    https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative

    My script, feel free to use (or just replace Jeffries with Schumer and use for a senator call):

    "I’m just calling to ask that you do not support Hakeem Jeffries as the Speaker of the incoming House. Mr. Jeffries has shown for years he is unwilling to fight for causes that are right, only what he thinks he can easily win. He cannot change the status quo and electing him speaker will sabotage the hard work voters have done.

    As my representative, please support a new leader who will immediately and vehemently stop the Trump administration’s unconstitutional and illegal actions and introduce legislation to help regular people, including:

    (1) Immediately initiate investigations with aggressive timelines and legislation to prosecute and/or impeach corrupt officials, stop unconstitutional ICE and White House immigration killings and kidnappings, and create a strategy to actually serve justice even without the DOJ’s participation, including coordinating with state AGs;

    (2) Introduce federal legislation to mirror Montana’s rejection of corporate and billionaire campaign funding;

    (3) Introduce legislation to create Medicare for All or a similar public option for healthcare;

    (4) Immediately schedule votes and draft superseding legislation regarding Trump’s tariffs, the Iran war, and funding for Ukraine; and

    (5) Immediately schedule votes to stop funding the Israeli government’s genocide in Gaza.

    Mr. Jeffries has demonstrated neither the will nor the strategic ability to implement any of the above. Please do not support Mr. Jeffries for House speaker."
