I know we’re bullshitting here, but my inner pedant can’t help himself: Jesus was born in Roman-era Galilee, at a time when most people spoke Greek and various forms of Aramaic. Jesus is the Anglo-fied rendering of the Latin spelling of the Greek version (Iesus) of the Hebrew name Yeshua (which could also be translated as Joshua or Hosea).
Jesus killed jesus (according to the author of Mark) when he didn’t deny to being king of the jews to Pilate after trashing the temple. Thats what killed him. His own fucking hubris in believing he was a messiah sent by god. Thus: Elohi elohi! Why have you forsaken me?
he famously converted to Christianity, although he still practices many Jewish traditions in his personal life, there are Christian faiths that support Jewish people keeping their traditions alive, or practicing both faiths, he’s never been Catholic, but he’s on tour in Italy and considering the Pope’s age and origins, he’s likely a pretty big fan.
Ehhh not particularly. The bible does show early examples of Christian Jews who kept partaking of Jewish practices after Jesus, but it fizzled out eventually.
In that context, the definition of a Jew wouldn’t be someone who isn’t a Christian.
How I’d categorise it, the religion of Messianic Jews would be Christianity. Messianic Judaism is a denomination of Christianity.
From what I’ve heard, though, it can be a bit of a larp at times.
The religion that Jesus participated in became what is now Christianity. Jewish tradition wasn’t obligatory for gentile believers, which basically makes up the majority of the Church now
Not to be confused with modern day rabbinic Judaism which rejects even a lot of what Jews in Jesus’ time held to
Jesus was Jewish. Be would have followed most of the Jewish laws and followed many of the observance less those he believed needed to change. Or would have if he existed
not everyone. while there’s some historical documentation Jesus may have been a historical person, there’s also hoax and fraudulent accounts that have been passed on as historical, the narrative outside of Christian religious accounts is very minimal and the religious accounts only start up at best 20+ years after his lifetime but more likely 50-100 years after, as it was a doomsday cult, they didn’t see the point of writing things down all that much until enough time passed they started to have a longer view of when the end would be.
Ahh I didn’t know the naming conventions, rabbinic new. Thanks for the knowledge, I’ll be reading the wiki on that for future reference.
I believe a person named Jesus existed, or dont care to deny it at the very least. I just wanted to be inclusive of different view points around the very existence of the person we call Jesus so thanks for supporting me in that, as I don’t always speak good
I heard this was a case. The original intention of the movement was for evangelism towards rabbinic jews, but ended up not being the case.
I think part of it as well is that Evangelicals seem to be adverse to historic Christian tradition because it’s “too Catholic” but want something historical and esoteric to cling to, so they just find their own things. Which is sad, because the reformers often held on to tradition (Especially Martin Luther)
That’s a specific group of people, and as far as I know, he’s never been associated with them, it’s more that he’s OK with observing multiple traditions on his own and isn’t particularly associated with one group, but maintains he’s sincere in his Christian faith even in recent interviews, but he also still clearly observes Jewish traditions, which isn’t really a problem with many Christian groups, obviously some are very much against any observance but their own.
Ah fair. The first century converts did do this. There was a small phenomena I know of where occasionally ex muslims would still use islamic prayer postures or prayer beads (likely originally Christian anyway) in regards to Christian worship, but most people want to completely shake off an old religion in regards to Christianity (and these cases I heard were actually secret converts living in Muslim households)
There would be an issue if it’s an anti-Jesus rabbinic Jewish tradition. Some believe the Dayenu might be this (which made me question it’s inclusion in The Chosen) but that’s another thing.
isn’t he Jewish?
Jews are allowed to meet the Pope.
Being Jewish also does not preclude one from releasing a Christmas album
Neil Diamond has an excellent one.
no bc they killed Jesus 🙀
You must have been a very slippery baby.
lmao I’m so stealing this
don’t worry, I know they didn’t kill jesus
How are you so sure?
because Jesus never really existed
Then who invented surfing, idiot?
Bob Dylan
Jesus is a Mexican name, not a Palestinian name
No, it’s Greek: “Hey, Zeus!”
Isa is a traditional Arabic name

That’s hilarious😂 I’ve never heard this take before lol
Oh bless you, you haven’t encountered anti-semitism yet, then.
Jews don’t go around killing Latinos
tell that to jered kushnar
That’s only because they dont live next door to each other.
I have lots of latino friends, rarely feel the urge to kill them
Got any Palestinian friends there amigo?
I do have a few.
The Romans killed Jesus, blaming the Jews in the biblical text was a clear tactic to appeal better to Roman converts.

I blame the nails
More the suffocation
Ya, some of those apostles were pretty clingy
never would’ve happened if they just got stoned and listened to Dylan
“Let him who is without dank bud cast the first stone.”
I think he’s a Sith.
Look at him.I think he thinks he’s a sith. Think Bob Dylan is a sw fan?
makes sense

interesting, never knew that
Messianic Judaism
Anti-establishment establishment politician

Jesus was famously a Jew, and he participated in Jewish tradition. It’d be weird for Christians to be against it.
The religion that Jesus participated in became what is now Christianity. Jewish tradition wasn’t obligatory for gentile believers, which basically makes up the majority of the Church now

Basically everyone agrees that Jesus existed, was a Jew and was even crucified under Pontius Pilate.
Jesus was Jewish in first century terms, yes. He followed second-temple Judaism. He wasn’t a rabbinic Jew, which is what’s around today.
not everyone. while there’s some historical documentation Jesus may have been a historical person, there’s also hoax and fraudulent accounts that have been passed on as historical, the narrative outside of Christian religious accounts is very minimal and the religious accounts only start up at best 20+ years after his lifetime but more likely 50-100 years after, as it was a doomsday cult, they didn’t see the point of writing things down all that much until enough time passed they started to have a longer view of when the end would be.

It’s usually a hard-core larp. Evangelicals who aren’t Jewish level larp
