President Donald Trump spent early Tuesday night making desperate phone calls and blasting Fox News before midterm election results came in.

“I have the ultimate power — it’s called ‘veto,’” President Trump told CBS News in a phone interview before polls first began to close in some states. Already, Trump appeared to make excuses for a potentially massive Republican loss.

Trump also called the Financial Times, assuring reporter Edward Lucas that the U.S. has no immediate plans to strike Iran, the Middle East country Trump started a war with in February.

Trump had a particular grudge against Fox News Tuesday night, texting commentator Greg Gutfeld about his disdain for liberal Fox News commentator Jessica Tarlov.

Spoiler, a presidential veto isn’t the be-all-end-all. It can be overturned by a 2/3 majority in both houses. Not saying it wouldn’t be super difficult to pull off but it is still there.

There were already some republicans that didn’t like Trump. With these results there will more opportunistic parasites that will look to jump ship so maybe possible if democrats play the manipulation game right.

What, should they instead try to connect with the common sense and conscience of republicans that were previously Trump supporters? Only thing those people understand is probably power and fear.

I don’t care about making him suffer. There’s been enough suffering because of him. I just want him to die and be rid of him for good.

While it would be hilarious to watch the conservatives tie themselves into knots trying to figure out a way to make it illegal for Obama to do that while also making it fine for Trump that would ultimately be a very bad thing.

First it would add legitimacy to Trumps run, not that a lack of that would stop him, but why hand him free ammunition.

Second it would massively energize the Republican base, because while some may be tired of Trump, they absolutely loath Obama and would vote in large numbers for Trump just to deny Obama any possible chance of winning.

Third, Obama burned a lot of bridges during his two terms and is very much a figure head of the old guard Democrats that are just now losing their grip on the DNC to the actual progressives in the party. Bringing Obama back would be a blow to the progressive wing of the party that we most desperately need in power. Further a lot of Democrat voters soured somewhat on Obama, particularly in his second term, I’m not convinced having him on a ballot would bring more Democrats to the polls than the Republicans it almost certainly would.

And let him and his friends get off that easy? No way, try them all, convict them, send them to prison or the gallows, and claw back as much of the money they’ve gained at the expensive of the country as possible.

Even if he died he should still be tried posthumously, if only to give his victims closure, claw back some of the money he’s stolen for those victims, and to insure his legacy as the most criminal president of the US is properly recorded. It will also be important for the cases against his collaborators.

      Maybe not.

The GOP civil war has started, its just a matter of who will fire the first bullet and when?

We’ve heard for years GOP congressmen HATE Trump. Now they see America HATES Trump too. Who (if any) will scramble to cross party lines to impeach and remove to save their own careers?

I mean, we shouldn’t let them save their own careers, but we should let them act like there’s a chance to appease us before we vote them out and (god willing) prosecute them.

The founding fathers probably never expected things to go this sideways, but one of the features of seperation of powers was supposed to be that politicians would save their own skin and stop other branches from doing the wrong thing.

The problem is having captured all the branches, there was no sinking ship for the rats to flee. That has now changed, Trump has become a sinking ship

Americans on the whole hate Trump, but there’s still that core of 30-ish% who love him uncritically. They’re all Republicans, which makes them around 60% of the GOP and more than enough to determine primary outcomes. It’s hard to get nominated as a Republican without Trump, and now we see that it’s hard to win with Trump.

I suspect that most of those cult members will just stop voting once their idol fades away. Maybe that will let the Republicans recover in 2030, but you just know Trump’s going to be out for his base in 2028.

Just to add to your point about his cult. Reminder a lot of them were politically unengaged up until 2016, without Trump there’s a solid chance they become inactive again.

Mind you there’s always a risk they latch onto one of his kids but they will still most likely bleed 10 percent or so of their numbers in the process.

Yes and now Trump claims it because he wasn’t, when it’s very clearly Trump and his administration that people are voting against.
Let’s hope this will make some of the checks and balances work. Obviously supreme court is 100% compromised and defunct, so Trump still has that. But here’s to hoping the democrats will actually do something. My hopes are not high, but at least there’s a chance now.

Still having an absolute corrupt supreme court for more than 8 years shows a systemic problem. If they “leave” Within the next 2 years, it is still Trump appointing the candidates to replace them.

That’s at least 10 years with a supreme court where party politics are more important than the law of the land.
