Irrelevant to the fact that Taiwan is an independent country.

do you mean that you think it is an independent country, or rather, that you think it should be one?

if you believe they are already independent, why do you think they still have an active independence movement? do any other independent countries have that? 🤔

So is Taiwan part of China or is it not? Because if they haven’t renounced their claims, then they’re still maintaining that they’re part of China, are they not?

When was it that they formally declared independence btw? When should I celebrate Taiwanese Independence Day?

You don’t need to declare independence to be independent. Only if you were dependent in the first place you claim independence.

ROC was never dependent on PRC. They just both claim the same territory. They are 2 independent countries that claim the same territory, just like both Israel and Palestine are 2 independent countries that claim the same territory.

Regardless, I agree with the traditional US stance of “strategic ambiguity” which does not formally recognize Taiwan as independent but treats it as being independent de facto. This stance has maintained peace for many decades with Taiwan being functionally independent, so I can see no reason why any reasonable person would want to deviate from that. So I will repeat my position that I consider Taiwan de facto independent, but not formally so.

The nuances of Taiwan’s geopolitical position have absolutely nothing to do with the racism in the meme that I’m criticizing.

You made a valid point. While both maintain that Taiwan is part of China, I suppose that doesn’t inherently preclude them both being independent countries. You’ve convinced me that that’s not a valid line of argument, so I’ve dropped it. You have scored a goal in the goalposts. That doesn’t mean that my position is going to shift completely, because there are other valid reasons for maintaining it.

I still don’t see what any of this has to do with the racist meme.

They can’t answer you because 1) it is racist and they have no rebuttal, or 2) it is racist and they like it so they won’t care to give a rebuttal.

                  Gotta love libs man

It’s kind of shocking that it has so many upvotes. I guess I’m saving this one and adding it to my pile of, “Reasons why I don’t give a shit what the majority of people on here think.”
